Getting a drivers licence is a huge responsibility. Not only do you need to build the technical skills to operate a vehicle, but it’s important to be P Plate ready and drive safely alongside other road users. The process of moving from a Learners licence to a P licence is very structured and deliberately so. With road rules testing, day driving experience, night driving and minimum hours, each learner needs to reach the minimum standard before passing their driving test.
A common question Learn2Drive Driving School principal Tracey Wilson is asked, revolves around the number of lessons needed to reach the required standard.
Put simply, learners can take a lot of pressure off themselves by accepting that each person is different, and the number and type of lessons required will vary (often considerably) from one person to another. Learn2Drive Driving School programs are structured around the unique needs of each individual learner. You may be brilliant on the open road but struggle in the congested traffic conditions along Ruthven Street around 8am in the mornings!
It’s also important to know that the number of lessons does not equate to the relative ability of the learner driver. Some learners may be competent in all areas but need a bit of ‘polishing’ across a few categories, whilst others may be perfect in most areas but need some extra focus in one or two driving skills. In either case, the number of lessons needed to reach the right skill levels is not important – getting to the right skill level is!
So, whether you end up needing 5, 15 or 25 lessons, just focus on the end result, trust your trainer Tracey or Bev and take it one step at a time! Like anything in life, the more confident you are, the greater the likelihood of success.
