Any discussion on the future of driver training will generally elicit a range of opinions, with most involving grand speculation and often centred on the reality of driverless cars.
Any Google search will reveal sites and blogs that outline various authors options on whether drivers will need training to program their vehicles, instead of operating them as part of that whole driver training and driverless vehicle dynamic. We suspect that even if you shortened the timeframe to 20 years then many of the pundits would still be wrong!
Learn 2 Drive owner and Principal Instructor Tracey Wilson, believes that the world and life in general seems to get faster every year, and insatiable consumer demand for innovation and technology has driven advancements today that weren’t even considered just a few years ago. It’s in that context that driver training providers, be it Learn 2 Drive Driving School or other companies need to continually adapt to the changing environment.
There are already clues as to the direction of vehicle innovation with many car makes showcasing new technology at motor shows across the world, and some of the major players already announcing the release of driverless or semi-driverless vehicles within 5 – 10 years. Some States of Australia have already passed legislation allowing vehicle manufacturers to test the technology and vehicles on the road, and not just around a test track.
Proximity alerts, automated reversing and crash avoidance technology are fast becoming every day features in vehicle models. Tracey believes these will become part of standard driver training and testing for most people in the future. The evolution of driverless technology will also lead to significant changes in what people are taught and most likely how they are taught.
Perhaps one day learner drivers will be taught by holograms of Tracey Wilson and her colleague Bev. In the meantime, they will just have to deal with the real people!
Whatever the technology, Learn 2 Drive Driving School continues to introduce more and more skilled and safe drivers to our roads.
